Fraternity Providing Students 'Tools For Success' In Mount Vernon
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – The Eta Zeta Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will kick off of a workshop series for high school students, “Tools for Success,” from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the Westchester Community College Mount Vernon Extension, 17 S. 5th Ave. The “Tools for Success” series addresses real-world issues high school students face, from college/vocation choices to sexual health and responsibility. Putnam Arts Council Exhibits Annual Fall Art Show In Mahopac
MAHOPAC, N.Y. – The Putnam Arts Council’s annual fall exhibit is on display in the A. Eric Arctander Gallery at the Belle Levine Art Center through Sunday, Oct. 25. The exhibit features the work of 63 artists, including 12 Mahopac residents. The work can be viewed during gallery hours Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. The exhibit is sponsored by NYSEG and was juried for inclusion and award by Anne Johann of Croton-on-Hudson. Manhattan Man Sentenced For Stash Of Illegal Guns In Yonkers, New York City
YONKERS, N.Y. – A Manhattan man and former U.S. soldier was sentenced Thursday for various gun charges, including an arsenal of illegal guns found in the basement of a Yonkers residence, reports lohud. Antonio Olmeda, 57, was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in prison. Olmeda – who also allegedly kept a hit list – pleaded guilty in October 2014 to one count of possessing an unregistered short-barreled shotgun, two counts of possessing unregistered machine guns and three counts of being a convicted felon in possession of various firearms, according to the report. Man Charged With Stealing Car In Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – An 18-year-old man was arrested in Bridgeport on Wednesday in the theft of a car, according to the Bridgeport Police Department. Derek Williams, 18, was charged with larceny after police officers observed a white Hyundai Accent at around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday. Officers checked the license plates against the stolen vehicle list, and followed the vehicle when they realized the car was stolen, officials say. A bond was set at $5,000 for Williams, according to the report.

Westport Man Charged With Assault After Fight With Neighbor
WESTPORT, Conn. – A Westport man was arrested Wednesday night after officers responded to physical fight between two neighbors in the area of Scofield Place, according to Westport Police. Timothy Taylor, 51, was charged with second-degree assault. The victim was taken to Norwalk Hospital with facial injuries, police said. Taylor was released on a $2,500 bond and is due in Norwalk Court on Friday, Oct. 23, according to police.
