New York State Unemployment Rate Drops To Lowest Level In 7 Years
ALBANY, N.Y. – New York state’s unemployment rate decreased from 5.2 percent to 5.1 percent in September 2015, reaching its lowest level since April 2008, according to preliminary figures released Thursday by the New York State Department of Labor.
New York City’s unemployment rate also dropped over the month, declining from 5.4 percent to 5.2 percent, the city’s lowest unemployment rate since May 2008.

Caroline House, Founded By Wilton Nuns, Celebrates 20 Years Of Helping
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Bridgeport-based nonprofit Caroline House, which was founded by a group of nuns in Wilton, will host a three-tiered celebration Sunday, Oct. 18, starting at 2:30 p.m. to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The celebration will commence at 2:30 p.m. at St. Charles Church, 1279 Main St., with a Mass of Thanksgiving with the Rev. Charles Allen. A reception will follow at the nearby McGivney Center, 333 Stillman St. Lastly, there will be an open house and tour at Caroline House, located at 574 Stillman St., immediately after the reception.

Danbury's Trailer Box Project Opens 'Traces' Exhibit
DANBURY, Conn. – The Trailer Box Project will introduce a new exhibition, “Traces,” with an opening reception for the general public Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at Trailer Box Project, 15 Great Pasture Road, Unit 15, Danbury.
The new show will feature individual works by artists Natasha Karpinskaia and Janice Mauro, as well as a collaborative piece created by the artists.

Eleanor Mary Kurzhals Herring, 90, Formerly Of Peekskill
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Eleanor Mary Kurzhals Herring, 90, of Beach Lake, Pa., formerly of Peekskill, died Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The daughter of the late Edward and Mary Clark Kurzhals, she was born Oct. 21, 1924, in Peekskill. She graduated from the Cochran School of Nursing, St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. She retired from the Peekskill Community Hospital. She served as supervisor of obstetrics and gynecology for more than 20 years. She was a former member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corp. and served six months at Fort Dix, N.J. She was a member of the Peekskill Civic Orchestra as a violinis…
