Boys Scouts End Ban On Gay Leaders PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – The Boy Scouts of America ended its ban on openly gay adult leaders in its organization on Monday, reports the New York Times. The national executive board of the Boy Scouts accepted the change, with 79 percent of those present in the meeting via phone voting in favor, according to the report. The new policy also prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation in Boy Scout offices and paid jobs, but allows church-sponsored units to choose leaders who agree with their principles, which could exclude homosexual men, according to the New York Times. Croton-on-Hudson Boy Receives Assistance Dog From Canine Companions CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Croton-on-Hudson resident Tanner Dago-Mitchell, 8 years old, recently received a Canine Companions assistance dog from Canine Companions for Independence, a national non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities. Dago-Mitchell was matched with Peekay, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever, who has been trained to respond to over 50 commands. Police ID Homeless Man Whose Legs Were Found Near New Haven Train Station FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The pair of severed human legs found July 15 near the State Street Metro-North train station in New Haven have been identified as belonging to a homeless man last seen May 20, reports NBC Connecticut. The legs belonged to Ray Roberson, 54, who missed a June 17 court date in New Haven, according to the report.
