Arlene Hook Simpkins, 78, Of Southport
SOUTHPORT, Conn. – Arlene Hook Simpkins, 78, of Southport, died Sunday, July 26.
She was born in Steubenville, Ohio, June 25, 1937, to John DeMarr and Margaret Hook. She was a graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in 1958 and a master’s degree from NYU in guidance and counseling.
She moved to Connecticut in 1960, and was married to Robert Simpkins. In 1964, she gave birth to their only child, James Bradley (Brad).
She worked as a guidance counselor at Greenwich High School for 40 years, and retired in 2006. She…

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Aaltje Van der Meulen, 90, of Scarsdale, died Saturday, July 25.
She was born July 24, 1925, in Hilversum, Netherlands, to Hendrik and Martha Wernsen Doornekamp. She was the wife of the late Ruurd K. Van der Meulen; mother of Eveline and Richard (Suzanne) Van der Meulen; grandmother of one; and sister to six siblings.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Westchester Funeral Home Inc., Eastchester.
