Putnam County Sees Slight Drop In Unemployment Rate PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – Putnam County is included in a list of New York State counties that have the lowest unemployment rate for June 2015, according to the New York State Department of Labor. Putnam County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent. New York State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 5.7 percent to 5.5 percent between May and June 2015, the lowest since 2008. The state’s private sector job count increased by 173,500 from June 2014 to June 2015. In June 2015, the number of private sector jobs in the state was 7,804,200 – an all-time high.

Putnam Sheriff Seeks Man Wanted For Weapons Possession SOUTHEAST, N.Y. – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who is wanted on weapons charges.   Luis A. Carias, 34, failed to appear in court to answer to charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. A bench warrant was issued Aug. 23 in the Town of Southeast to answer to the charges. Carias’ last known location is Brewster, New York. If anyone has any information as to Carias’s whereabouts, contact the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department at (845) 808-4357.
