BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Gerald B. Rice Jr., 66, of Bridgeport, died Friday, Sept. 4, of cancer.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1949, to Gerald and Marion (Jost) Rice.
He was a retired computer operator, an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, fisherman, and collector of Lionel trains.
He is survived by his, wife of more than 42 years, Linda Rice; his daughter Colleen Rice McDonough (Colin) of Baltic, Conn.; and his son, Gerald Rice III and his fiancée, Kristin Giblin, of Shelton, Conn..

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Lottie L. Palmer, 94, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Sept. 3, in Cambridge Manor, Fairfield.
She was born in Bridgeport on Sept. 5, 1920, to Louis and Bertha Lukomske. She was a graduate of Southern Connecticut Teachers College in 1941. She was an art and elementary school teacher in the Fairfield school system for several different schools, where she retired after 37 years.
She was a lifelong resident of Fairfield before moving to Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull, Connecticut, in 2007. During her years in Middlebrook Farms, she was a member of the residents council.

Earl Louis Applegate, 72, Of Greenwich
GREENWICH, Conn. – Earl Louis Applegate, 72, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Greenwich Hospital.
He was a son of Earl C. and Rose Ailleo.
He was a lifelong resident of Greenwich. After graduating from Greenwich High School, Applegate enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served six years in the Strategic Air Command before being honorably discharged.
He then spent the majority of his career working for the Dorr-Oliver Company in Connecticut.
He is survived by his life partner Joan Spievak, and his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Margaret Applegate, also of Greenwich.

WILTON, Conn. – Sister Margaret Mary McGaffney, 62, a member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Lourdes Health Care Center in Wilton.
She was born March 24, 1953, in New Hyde Park, N.Y. to Gilbert and Elsie Rupert McGaffney.
After pronouncing her vows as a School Sister of Notre Dame in 1981, she taught at St. Leo School, Irvington, N.J., and religion at Essex Catholic Girls High School and Roselle Catholic High School from 1981-86. FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Margaret (Peggy) Mazurick Haggar, 85, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Fairfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 1.
She was the daughter of Stephen and Antionette Mazurick. She was born and raised on the east side of Bridgeport and graduated from Harding High School in 1948.
She graduated from the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Upon graduation, she was employed by Bridgeport Hospital in the obstetrics department. She was later employed by the City of Bridgeport for many years as a public health/school nurse in several elementary schools in Bridgeport.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Carmella A. Esposito, of Pinellas Park, Fla, formerly of Bridgeport, died Thursday, Sept. 3, at Bon Secours Assisted Living in St. Petersburg, Fla. She was 101.
She was born Jan. 14, 1914, to Giuseppe and Maria (Fasula) Vecchiarelli.
She grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Bridgeport City Normal School with a degree to teach elementary school in June 1934. She later attended Danbury State Teachers College and earned a bachelor's degree in education. She taught first- and second-grades in the Bridgeport school system for more than 35 years.
