Englewood Ice Rink's Weekend Grand Opening Planned ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — The John T. Wright Ice Rink at Mackay Park will have its grand opening celebration on Sunday, Oct. 11, with skating performances, an historic exhibit and activities for the whole family. The event is hosted by the Englewood Historic Society and Friends of the John T. Wright Arena and includes the opening of the EHS Historical Exhibition at the Gatehouse of photos and memorabilia.  The event will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at Mackay Park, 2-10 N Van Brunt St., Englewood.

Yorktown's Family Fun Festival Benefits Special Olympics YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Yorktown Leos Club is hosting a family fun festival benefiting the Special Olympics Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Valley Field Golf Course at Route 6 and Lee Boulevard. Attendees can take part in laser tag, archery tag, a Wiffle ball homerun derby, dodge ball and a jump castle. Golfers can try the Hole-In-One contest to win a new car from Croton Auto Park. All games are $5 each, and proceeds will benefit Special Olympics of the Hudson Valley.

Bronxville Students Named National Merit Semifinalists BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Bronxville High School seniors Christopher Miller and Patrick Rich have qualified as National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists. They are among 16,000 students in the running for about 7,400 scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. Approximately 1.5 million juniors in about 22,000 high schools took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last year. Lakeland School Board Getting Public Input On Veterans' Tax Exemption YORKTOWN, N.Y. – The Lakeland Central School District Board of Education is holding a public hearing on the Basic Alternative Veterans' Exemption on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Walter Panas High School. The purpose of the hearing is to provide an opportunity for the Lakeland community to express their opinions and provide input to the Board of Education prior to any action the board may take, since a tax exemption for veterans will require a tax increase for all other Lakeland taxpayers. Meadow Pond PTA Holding Pumpkin 5K SOUTH SALEM, N.Y. – The first Meadow Pond PTA Pumpkin 5K run/walk will take place Sunday, Oct. 18 at 8 a.m. The course will run down Deepwell Farms, left onto Shady Lane, left onto Elmwood Road and return back to Meadow Pond Elementary school. Youth ages 6 -10 (suggested age) can try the Mile Fun Run around Deepwell Farms dead end, track their time and receive a ribbon. All races start on Deepwell Farms Road parallel to the school.
