Mega Marijuana Greenhouse Proposed For Western Mass A major Western Massachusetts potato farmer is seeking to grow buds as well as spuds. Bernie Smiarowski, of the 500-acre Smiarowksi Farm, has plans to build a 100,00-square-foot marijuana greenhouse on the Hatfield, Whatley town line. For reference, 100,000 square feet is about the same size as six hockey rinks put together.  The town of Hatfield is holding a public hearing on Smiarowski’s request for a special permit from the Planning Board to build the greenhouse, as well as a small “headhouse” at Plivins Road/Bashin Road. Alleged Double-Homicide Accomplice Is Charged With Helping Suspect Escape Police A Connecticut woman has been arrested for helping the suspect in a double-homicide investigation stay on the run. Shakela Marie Holley, 48, was arrested Aug. 3 in Bloomfield and charged with four counts of hindering prosecution second degree, police said. Police did not specify where Holley lives, but she has an address in New Britain listed on various online directories. She is being held on a $500,000 cash bond. Covid-19: Baystate Medical Center Outbreak Infections Are Up 50-Percent The COVID-19 outbreak at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield has spread to more than 50 staff and patients. All the infections, however, have been in the same unit; the virus has not spread to other parts of Western Massachusetts’ major hospital, Baystate officials said on Aug. 3. This demonstrates that the hospital is keeping the virus physically contained. The unit with the outbreak has not been publicly named. Hartford: 10 People Shot In 24 Hours; 1 Dead Hartford Police are investigating a homicide at a large warehouse gathering on Windsor Street, Tuesday, Aug. 4. Altogether, 10 people were shot in Hartford over the last 24 hours. Police said they arrived at 818 Windsor St., at about 2 a.m. and found a large gathering, six people shot, and one man dead. Just hours before, police were at the intersection of Tower Avene and Greenwich Street at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, where they discovered three victims injured by gunfire. Two of the victims were rushed to the hospital to receive surgery for their wounds. The homicide is under investigation.

CT Naval Tech Going To Prison For Sexually Assaulting A Minor He Met On Grindr A Naval technician has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually assaulting a minor child he met on the dating app Grindr. The assault took place at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. Chazzman K. Chung, 29, of Groton, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of sexual abuse of a minor, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Connecticut.
