Nursing Home Lays Off Entire Staff A longterm care facility is laying off its entire staff by the end of November. More than 100 employees are being laid off from long-term rehabilitation facility and nurinsg home  Mount Saint Vincent Care Center in Holyoke. On Friday, Sept. 18, Mount Saint Vincent officials notified the state that by mid-November it will have laid off 106 employees. The 125-bed health care facility has been purchased by iCare Health Network, which plans to rehire some current employees, according to MassLive. The facility had previously been owned by Trinity Health of New England.

Interstate Workplace Shooting And Highway Chase Ends In Longmeadow A workplace shooting gave way to a police chase along I-91 Tuesday, Sept. 22. A South Windsor business on Edwin Road was the site of a shooting Tuesday morning, according to police. Though the business name has not been confirmed, the address of the shooting location belongs to a trucking firm. The suspect fled Connecticut in a dark-colored GMC Acadia toward the Massachusetts border, according to WesternMass News. The chase ended in Longmeadow around 9:30 a.m., State Police said.

Terrorism Squad Investigates Powder Mailed To Western Mass Hospital A federal terrorism task force is investigating a white powder that was mailed to a Western Massachusetts hospital. On Monday, Sept. 21, the Holyoke Fire Department responded to Holyoke Medical Center for a report of “unknown white powder” that arrived at the hospital in an envelope. Two staff members were exposed to the powder that fell out of the envelope when it opened, Holyoke firefighters said. Under the hospital’s emergency plan, the building was evacuated as a precaution. Husband and wife Ryan McConnell and Hanna Tedros, owners of Hawkwood Game Cafe on Broad Street have purchased Atlantique, said Atlantique Tina Roberts on Monday, Sept. 21.
