A Paterson man has been convicted in the 2024 shooting death of a well-known street vendor, authorities said Thursday, Aug. 21.
Jimmy Mercedes, 41, was found guilty Thursday, Aug. 21, of murder and multiple weapons charges in the May 5, 2024 killing of 62-year-old Daryle Robinson Sr., Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.

Pit Bull Shot Dead After Attacking Elizabeth Cop: Authorities
A pit bull was fatally shot after biting a police officer in Elizabeth on Monday, Aug. 18, authorities said.
At 11:40 a.m., emergency services units were at the 1000 block of Olive Street in search of a robbery suspect, a spokesperson for the City of Elizabeth said. An officer went to the backyard of a residence in case the suspect appeared, authorities said.
As the officer was in the back, a large pit bull ran out and bit the officer, authorities said. The officer fired a shot, striking the dog, who died instantly, authorities said.
