Ice Cream Vendor Robbed at Knifepoint: Newark PD An ice cream vendor was robbed at knifepoint in Newark on Thursday, July 18, authorities said. At 9:30 a.m., the ice cream vendor was setting up their cart at the 200 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue when two men approached her from behind asking for ice cream, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspects then pushed her into a cart, held up a knife to her throat while a second suspect took her bag, containing $1,000, an iPhone, a vendor's license, her ID and a bank card. Bicyclist, 35, Decapitated By Driver Who Ran Red Light In Elizabeth, Police Say A 35-year-old cyclist was decapitated after he was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light in Elizabeth on the late evening of Sunday, Aug. 11, authorities said. The cyclist was crossing North Avenue and Spring Street when a 20-year-old driver ran a red light and struck him, decapitating him, a spokeswoman for the city said.  The cyclist's identity is being withheld, pending next of kin notification, authorities said. Irvington Woman Convicted Of Killing Toddler In Her Care After Sharing Her Side Of Story A 44-year-old Irvington woman was convicted of manslaughter on Friday, Aug. 9  in the death of a two-year-old child she was babysitting in 2021, authorities said. Claire Gelin was babysitting the victim from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19 in her Irvington apartment, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said. The child sustained serious from physical abuse on Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, but Gelin did not call 911 until Friday, Feb. 19, Stephens said.
