Long Island Man Sexually Abuses Child For Years, Police Say A 38-year-old Long Island man was arrested after an investigation found that he subjected a child to years of sexual abuse. Edwin Camey, of the hamlet of Calverton, was taken into custody Thursday, Oct. 19, according to Southampton Town Police. Investigators determined that Camey began sexually abusing the victim in October 2014, when the child was under the age of 11. The alleged abuse continued for more than four years at homes in both Calverton and Flanders before finally ending in April 2019. Drunk Woman With Child In Car Crashes On Capital Region Roadway, Police Say A woman from the region is facing DWI charges following a car crash in the region involving a child. The Schenectady County incident happened at around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the town of Duanesburg. Elizabeth Taylor, age 43, of Duanesburg, was driving on Mariaville Scotch Church Road when she went off the roadway and crashed, according to New York State Police. Michael Matteo, age 57, of Albany, was arraigned in Albany County Court on Thursday, Oct. 19. According to Albany Police, the victim reached out to investigators in August 2023 saying they had paid Matteo for construction work that was never completed. Capital Region Man Sexually Abused Child For Years, Jury Finds A 29-year-old man from the region is facing decades in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing a young child for years. Douglas Eckler, of Cohoes, was found guilty of sex crimes by a jury in Albany County Supreme Court on Wednesday, Oct. 18. According to prosecutors, Eckler repeatedly sexually abused the victim for several years, between the spring of 2020 and February 2023. Man Films Himself Abusing Dog At Capital Region Home, Posts On Social Media, Police Say A 24-year-old man from the region is accused of physically abusing his dog and posting it on social media. Jahmir Williams, of Albany, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 17, on suspicion of animal cruelty. According to Albany Police, someone contacted the department saying a dog had been abused at an Albany home in September 2023. An investigation found that Williams repeatedly struck the animal with a leash and then posted video of the abuse on social media. Ramon Lyons, age 16, of Huntington Station, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the death of Luis Cameron Rimmer-Hernandez. According to prosecutors, Lyons ran up to the victim as he stood talking to friends in Huntington Station, on Lowndes Avenue, shortly before 11 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2021.
