Rodney Harrison, Who Vowed To Solve Gilgo Beach Murders, Resigns As Suffolk Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison, the first Black commissioner of the Suffolk County Police Department and who vowed to solve the Gilgo Beach serial killings, is resigning. The 54-year-old Harrison will step down as police commissioner sometime in December 2023, a department spokesperson told Daily Voice. Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Robert Waring will take over the department’s operations until a new commissioner is named. Long Island Man Tries Luring Woman To ‘Safe House’ Posing As FBI Agent, Police Say What appeared to be a knight in shining armor for a troubled Long Island woman turned out to be anything but, according to police. A 911 dispatcher took a call from a concerned Commack citizen at around 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, saying they were worried for a female relative’s safety, according to Suffolk County Police. 29-Year-Old Busted Driving Stolen Utility Truck In Capital Region, Police Say A 29-year-old man has been arrested months after a work truck was stolen from a business in the region. The theft occurred early Monday, July 31, in Schenectady County at a business in Princetown, according to New York State Police. Troopers were told that someone made off with a utility truck and a construction trailer. The vehicles were later found roughly five miles away, in the town of Rotterdam. Arsonist Admits Setting Fire To Restaurant In Capital Region, Causing 'Extensive Damage' An arsonist is facing years in prison after admitting that he intentionally started a fire that heavily damaged a restaurant in the region. Schenectady County resident Eric Reed, age 36, pleaded guilty to one count of arson in Schenectady County Court on Friday, Oct 27, stemming from a fire at the Wagon Train BBQ restaurant in Rotterdam. The westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway will close overnight at Exit 49N in Huntington on Friday, Nov. 3. ID Released After Human Remains Found At Sunken Meadow State Park In Smithtown Authorities have identified a man whose remains were found at a state park on Long Island. The discovery was made just before 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at Sunken Meadow State Park in Smithtown.
