First Confirmed Rabies Case Of 2024 Found In Atlantic County Raccoon
A raccoon was found with rabies in Atlantic County in the first confirmed case of the year, according to officials. The county's health department said the raccoon tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, Jan. 31 after the animal was found on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue in Egg Harbor Township. Health officials were told about a dog that was brought to a veterinarian for a rabies booster after having contact with a raccoon. The raccoon was sent to the state laboratory for testing. Police are investigating after a man was killed by a minivan in Monmouth County, authorities said. Ocean Township police were called to a pedestrian crash on West Park Avenue at around 5:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The commission for the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) unanimously approved a resolution to enter a lease agreement with Aviation Sports Complex LLC. A family is rallying to support Ocean County children whose father was killed in a crash and mother, his wife, seriously injured. State police said 34-year-old George Francis of Lanoka Harbor died when his SUV drove off the Garden State Parkway south at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25.
