Two-Car Crash In Trumbull Sends Two To Hospital TRUMBULL, CONN. -- A two-car accident in Trumbull sent two people to the hospital Monday, police said. The crash occurred on Elm Street near its intersection with Stag Lane, Monroe police said. Both drivers were taken to Bridgeport Hospital where they were treated for unspecified injuries, police said. One of the drivers was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way, police said. Responding to the scene were the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department No. 1, the Stepney Fire Department, Monroe police, and Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service. Croton Fire Official Helps Rescue Ailing Woman After Crash CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- A Croton fire official who came upon a car accident in Cortlandt Manor on Monday helped rescue a passenger who was having chest pains. The deputy chief called for help from the fire department and emergency medical services. The car had been hit by a trailer that was being pulled by a dump truck on Quaker Bridge Road East, according to the fire department’s Facebook post. The unidentified woman was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The road was reopened after the damaged car was towed away, the post said.

South Orangetown Music Teacher Gains Quarterfinals For National Award ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- A South Orangetown music teacher is in line for a prestigious award. Matthew Rotjan, who teaches at both the South Orangetown Middle School and Cottage Lane Elementary School, had been named as a quarterfinalist in the contest for the 2017 Music Educator Award. More than 3,300 teachers were nominated for the award, but only 290 educators, representing 264 cities, made it to the quarterfinals. Sloatsburg Students Get Lesson In Emergency Services SLOATSBURG, N.Y. -- Students at Sloatsburg Elementary School were treated recently to a demonstration of how emergency services work in their community. Participating in the event were members of the Ramapo Police Department, the Sloatsburg Fire Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Sloatsburg Ambulance Corps. The children even got a close-up peek at the county’s emergency services helicopter.

Congers WWII Veteran Celebrates 103rd Birthday NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Congers resident and World War II veteran Frank Morea was lauded on his 103rd birthday Tuesday as a “true American hero” by state Sen. David Carlucci. Carlucci threw a party for Morea at his district offices in New City. Morea, an active member of the senator’s Veterans Advisory Committee, served in the Army from 1942-45 and fought in the Pacific theater. Morea was inducted into the state’s Veterans Hall of Fame in 2015. Peekskill Yacht Club Celebrates Commissioning Day PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Members of the Peekskill Yacht Club, one of the oldest boat clubs on the Hudson, recently celebrated the official opening of the 2016 sailing season. The organization, originally called the Peekskill Motor Boat Club, was incorporated in 1908. The club is a “working” club, meaning that members are responsible for everything from cleaning up the club house and grounds to working on the marina docks and setting poles and docks for the city. N.J. Man Charged With DWI In Upper Grandview Crash UPPER GRANDVIEW, N.Y. -- A New Jersey man is facing charges of driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car in Upper Grandview this past Sunday, police said. Bruce Buchanan, 53, of Tenafly, was driving on Route 9W when his car hit a guardrail, flipped, and landed on its roof, Orangetown police said. The accident occurred around 3:40 a.m. Buchanan was also charged with numerous traffic violations, police said. He is due in Orangetown Court on July 6. Police did not say if Buchanan was injured in the crash.

Nyack Man Faces Identity Theft Charges NYACK, N.Y. -- A local man wanted by police in New Jersey was arrested in Nyack last week and is now facing numerous charges, Orangetown police said. Max Tassy, 26, was spotted by an Orangetown officer in a parking lot in the village last Friday. Tassy was wanted on a warrant from the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Court in Bergen County, police said. The warrant accused Tassy of impersonation, theft of identity, use of personal identifying information of another, falsifying or tampering with records, and hindering prosecution.
