Bethel Vet Drops State Bid, Says True Mission Is Ministry, Not Politics
BETHEL, CONN. -- A former U.S. Marine and Yale divinity student who was seeking to run for state office has decided his true mission is his ministry and not politics.
Thomas C. Burke, 26, of Bethel, announced on Facebook this week he was withdrawing his nomination to run in the 107th state Assembly District.
The district covers Brookfield and parts of Bethel and Danbury, and is represented by Repubican Stephen Harding.

State's Highways, Bridges In Bad Shape, Says TRIPS Study
Peppered with cracks and bone-rattling potholes, the pavement on New York’s interstate highways is the 10th worst in the nation, according to a new study cited by lohud.com.
The study was conducted by TRIPS, a nonprofit group sponsored by construction businesses, labor unions and insurance companies, the lohud.com report said.
TRIPS, which says funding for projects that affect transportation must be a priority, also found that 8 percent of the state’s bridges are structurally deficient, making them the fourth worst in the nation in term of overall condition, lohud.com reported.

Police Pursue Fugitive Wanted In 2015 Ardsley Drug Arrest
State police are asking the public’s help in locating a man wanted for drug possession.
Gerald E. Friley, 56, was arrested in February, 2015, after being pulled over for a traffic infraction on the New York State Thruway in Ardsley, according to state police stationed at Tarrytown.
Friley was charged with seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
He is described as white, 5-foot-11, 145 pounds and having blond hair and hazel eyes.
