Alexander Hamilton Descendants Feted In White Plains, Irvington WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – White Plains historians took advantage recently of the public’s renewed interest in Alexander Hamilton to point out his local connections, and to fete one of his direct descendants. According to John Vorperian, president of the White Plains Historical Society, the founding father’s great-great-great-great-great grandson, Douglas Hamilton, took part in a program Sunday sponsored by the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society. Ridgefield's New Assistant Superintendent Aims To Hit Ground Running RIDGEFIELD, CONN. -- Kim Hapken plans to hit the ground running when she takes over as the Ridgefield public schools new assistant superintendent for special services this fall. Mount Pleasant Pool Remains Closed After Drain Incident MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. -- The Mount Pleasant Town Pool remained closed for repairs Friday after a 6-year-old boy got his finger caught in a water jet there, recreation officials said. However, the kiddie, slide and dive pool are open, they said. With the region well into a weekend heatwave, the town has set up sprinklers in the park’s play area for children to cool off in. Pedestrian Hit In Hillcrest; Driver Faces DWI, Assault Charges RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A Hillcrest man is being charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he hit a pedestrian Thursday in the hamlet. The unidentified 33-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for cuts and bruises, police said. The incident happened on Rockland Lane around 9 p.m. The 35-year-old driver was also charged with third-degree assault, police said. Monroe Firefighters Plug Propane Tank Leak, Prevent Fire MONROE, Conn. – Firefighters were called to a Monroe residence Tuesday by the report of a leaking propane tank. Firefighters stopped the leak quickly, preventing a fire in the property owner's outdoor grill and averting potential damage to the Fan Hill Road home. Volunteers from the Stepney and Stevenson fire departments had been called to assist, but turned back after being told that the situation had been resolved.

Teen Camp Counselor Charged With Sexual Abuse In Westchester MAMARONECK, N.Y. – A 16-year-old counselor has been charged with assaulting a young female camper at a village of Mamaroneck summer recreation camp, police said Thursday. The alleged incident occurred at Harbor Island Park and was reported to authorities around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The unidentified boy was arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse early Thursday, police said. Former East Fishkill Colleagues Mourn Retired Poughkeepsie Police Officer HOPEWELL JUNCTION, N.Y. – The passing of a longtime former Poughkeepsie police officer this week was noted with “great sadness” by his former colleagues in East Fishkill in a Facebook post. John J. Wiegard, a 53-year-old Hopewell Junction resident, died at home Thursday after a brief illness, according to his obituary. He had officially retired only the day before. Wiegard worked as a police officer in East Fishkill from 1990 to 1996, when he left to work for the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department as an acting sergeant.
