Poughkeepsie Man Held in Burglary Spree; Two Women Also Face Charges
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie man faces charges in connection with more than a dozen burglaries and attempted break-ins in Dutchess County, police said.
Jason M. Reed, 33, was arrested early Monday, June 13, in connection with a commercial burglary in Hyde Park, police said.
He was subsequently liked to the thefts of cartons of cigarettes at gas stations and convenience stores around the county, police said, including a Stewart’s and a Sunoco gas station, both on Route 82.
The June 13 incident involved a Shell gas station.

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Artists’ studios and historic buildings in Poughkeepsie, aka the Queen City, will be open for visitors this Saturday, June 18.

Connecticut Loses 1,400 Jobs; Unemployment Rate Holds Steady At 5.7%
FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut was down 1,400 nonfarm jobs in May, according to data just released by the state’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Despite the loss, the state’s unemployment rate held steady at about 5.7 percent, said Dr. Andrew Condon, director of the bureau’s Office of Research.
At this time last year, Connecticut’s jobless rate was 5.6 percent, according to state statistics.
The decline reflects “a very slow month for job growth across the country,” Condon said.

Margaret Fettes, 90, Longtime Dutchess County Legislator
MILLBROOK, N.Y. – Former colleagues mourned the loss of Dutchess County’s longest serving legislator, Margaret Fettes, last week.
Fettes, a pioneering community activist and Millbrook resident, died Tuesday, June 7. She was 90.
County Executive Marc Molinaro, who worked with Fettes, praised her as “a truly kind-hearted woman who believed in the importance of community service.”
Molinaro ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in Fettes' honor, according to a report by The Poughkeepsie Journal.
Fettes represented the towns of Millbrook, Union Vale and Washington from 1975-81 and from 1989 …
