6 Shootings, 3 Streets, 1 Night, 1 Dead: New Haven Neighborhood Has Violent Sunday Six people were shot in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood on Sunday, Aug. 16; one of the victims has died. New Haven police responded to a ShotSpotter report that gunfire had been detected as well as 911 calls about the incident. Four people were taken by ambulance to a hospital, another two were transported privately, police said. One person has died, police said, and, as of Sunday, the other five were in stable condition. The crime scene contains portions of Rosette, Hurlbut, and Wilson streets. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Police Department at 203-946-6304.

Woman Is Critical After Apparent Murder-Suicide Attempt In Worcester An apparent attempted murder-suicide is under investigation by Worcester Police following shots fired Monday, Aug. 17. Police responded to a Huntington Avenue home at around 12:55 a.m. Monday for a report of two people shot, police said. The investigation so far seems to indicate that a 25-year-old man shot his 27-year-old girlfriend, then turned the gun on himself, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Hiker With Bad Bee-Sting Reaction Saved By First Responders A hiker with a severe reaction to bee stings was saved from hiking trails in Hartford County. Firefighters in Burlington said they were alerted to a distressed hiker Saturday, Aug. 15 at around 11 a.m. They responded to the blue-yellow trail on the Torys Den Hiking Trail. The 911 dispatcher was able to track the location of the hiker using the caller’s GPS phone location and emergency responders were able to find the woman in times to provide medical care. Industrial Contamination Cleanup Effort In Chicopee Gets $300K Chicopee is getting $300,000 to help clean up environmentally damaged places in the Willimansett, industrial area. Among the sites slated for clean-up are the Spalding sports equipment manufacturing facility on Meadow Street and properties along the North Chicopee Street Corridor, said Congressman Richard Neal.
