Route 53 In Redding May Close Earlier Than Planned For Bridge Repairs REDDING, Conn. -- Route 53 may be closed at its Umpawaug Road intersection for bridge repairs as early as June, according to The Redding Pilot. The close would come just after schools let out for the summer and earlier than its initially predicted 42 day period from July to August, The Redding Pilot reported. Interim Schools Superintendent Fran Rabinowitz proposed 18 cuts on Monday to keep the 2016-17 budget at $245.6 million, reported Connecticut Post. Rabinowitz warned that the cuts would be disastrous for kids enrolled in Bridgeport schools and that the district needs an additional $15.1 million to break even, Connecticut Post said. West Nyack Free Library Celebrates With Haiku-a-thon WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- West Nyack Free Library is giving a special gift for kids to patrons who visit the Children's Room for National Library Week and share why they love the room. National Library Week is April 10 through 16.  The Children's Room will also hold a "Haiku-a-thon." Patrons can write their haikus on special sheets available at the library. The library hopes to place all the entries inside a book.  A haiku is a three-line poem consisting of five, seven then five syllables on each respective line.
